Government College of Engineering was started in the year 1966 – 67 with the vision of producing quality engineers. It is at present affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, GCE comes under DOTE I Colleges of Tamilnadu and the admissions are made strictly based on Tamilnadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) scores.

The college provides a serene atmosphere for the students to carry out their academic and co-curricular activities. With a sprawling green campus of over 450 acres, it is located by the NH-7 Salem – Bangalore highway. The Industrial locality of the college has helped students to carry out their in – plant activities at ease.

The infrastructure of the college is the standing testimony for respect and greatness that it has gained over the years.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Departments: Six separate fully-loaded departmental blocks connected by a well laid network of roads.

Hostels: Residential facilities are provided with six separate blocks for the under graduate boys and an exclusive hostel block for girls.

Auditorium: An auditorium with a capacity of 600 and with upto date facilities like LCD displays and projectors serves the cultural savvy.

Planetarium: The college also boasts of the medium sized category planetarium – the second in India, to cater the sixth sense of our students.

Guest House: Air conditioned guest house is also provided for the visitors and dignitaries.
